Intracept for Vertebrogenic Pain

The Intracept® Procedure

Intracept is a new, clinically proven treatment that targets the basivertebral nerve for the relief of chronic vertebrogenic low back pain. Intracept is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The Intracept Procedure is supported with two Level I clinical trials. Key findings of these include:

  • INTRACEPT Study
    • Patients treated with Intracept demonstrated a 20.9 point difference in mean ODI reduction at 3 months compared to the non-surgical management arm (p < 0.001)
    • Patients treated with Intracept demonstrated a 2.44 point difference in mean Visual Analog Scale (VAS) reduction at 3 months compared to the non-surgical management arm (p < 0.001)
  • SMART Trial
    • Patients treated with Intracept reported a 54% decrease in ODI from baseline to 24 months (Per Protocol Population n=106)
    • Patients treated with Intracept reported a 53% decrease in VAS from baseline to 24 months (Per Protocol Population n=104)

Chronic Low Back Pain(CLBP)

30M people in the US suffer from CLBP (back pain lasting more than 12 weeks), with an additional 900K new incidences each year. Patients suffering from CLBP begin treatment with conservative therapies such as anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, manipulative therapy, or injectiontherapy. These treatments frequently fail to provide adequate pain relief and surgery, such as spinal fusion, is often not an option for patients without spinal instability or leg pain. Unfortunately for the patients that fail to respond to conservative therapy and are not surgical candidates, options are limited – continue with conservative therapies, begin opioids, or live with low backpain.

The Intracept Procedure is a new, clinically proven treatment for patients who suffer from chronic vertebrogenic low back pain and have not responded to conservative therapy.
